Good win for Ardee St. Marys

Ardee St Marys V O Connells (Collon)

 

Umbrellas were the in-thing on a cold, wet and windy night in Collon as Ardee St Marys got their senior league campaign up and running  against the O Connells in the rescheduled fixture from Sunday.  The O Connells started the brightest as with only 15 seconds gone in the game they got the first point of the game.  The next score was not to be until the 7th minute as Ronan Carroll got the Marys level.  In the 11th Minute the O Connells retook the lead with a great point from long range.   Scores were scarce in the first half as the Marys had good possession but struggled to put the ball over the ball against a strong wind.  Darren Clarke drew the Marys back level in the 16th minute with a point from a free.  On 17 minutes the ball was worked well to Robbie Leavy who despite the tight angle managed to put the ball over the bar.   The O Connells drew level again in the 19th minute with a point from play, the Marys were forced into a substitution in the 20th minute as Rj Callaghan came off with an injury and Alan Kirk came on to replace him.   In the 21st minute Karl Faulkner made a great one and a blatant push in the back as Faulkner was bearing down on goal only resulted in a free and Darren Clarke stuck the ball over from close range.  The O Connells responding in the 24th minute with point from distance as they made use of the strong wind.   Duane Crosby made a great save to keep the Marys level in the 25th minute.  In the 28th minute the O Connell scored a point from play, they added another a minute later.  On the stroke of Half time Darren Clarke was black card and then was shown red for descent.  The Marys were 2 points down and down to 14 men.

The O Connells started the second half as they did the first and won the throw up and worked the ball up the pitch and stuck the ball in the net for the first goal of the game, the Marys were now down by 5 point.  The Marys responded very well and Ronan Carroll opened their account in the second half with a point from about 40 yards.   Two minutes later John Bingham got a point from close range.   Alan Kirk made it a two point game with a point from play and Ronan Carroll was fouled after passing the ball to Kirk and the O Connells man got a man black carded.  Good work by Conor Keenan resulted in a Marys free and Kirk Stuck the ball over the bar to draw the Marys level.  They then took the lead and Alan Kirk was the man again with another point.  17 minutes into the second half and Kian Moran finished off a good move with a point and the Marys were in cruise control.  In the 19th minute and Alan Kirk added another.  20 minutes into the second half and the O Connells got there first point of the second half.  Niall Eccles made a great run down the left and laid it off to Ronan Carroll to score from 30 yards.    In the 55th minute Alan Kirk again hit it between the posts from a free kick.   In the 56th Minute the O Connells added a point from a free.  Ronan Carroll added another in the 58th minute.  3 minutes of injury time was added and the O Connells got a point which proved to be the last kick of the game.  Best for the Marys were Duane Crosby with a few fine saves when called upon, Alan Kirk and Robbie Leavy Duane.
