October 13, 2014

Naomh Malachi and Westerns will meet to decide who will play in the Division 2/3 promotion relegation final after coming through their play-off games.

Naomhh Malachi defeated Glen Emmets by 2-11 to 0-10 at Monasterboice on Thursday evening, while on Saturday, Westerns came out on top against Lannleire by 2-14 to 0-10.

After preserving their Intermediate Championship status, Naomh Malachi went into their game with confidence high but it was the Emmets who had slightly the better of the opening half. However, two minutes before the break Colin Hoey hit the opening goal to send the Mals in leading by 1-5 to 0-6.

Eleven minutes into the second half the Courtbane men effectively settled the issue with the second goal as the Mals went on to win by seven points.

A goal after only three minutes from Westerns midfielder Tommy Durnin sent the home side on there way to victory at Reaghstown on Saturday evening. The Westerns never relinquished the lead, going in at the interval 1-8 to 0-5 ahead.

Lannleire, led by Carlos Lambe, staged a brief rally at the beginning of the second half, but when Tommy Durnin converted a 43rd minute penalty, the outcome was never in doubt.
