Alan Lynch St Josephs gets away from Stephen Kilcoyne Sean O'Mahonys in the Intermediate Championship semi final replay in Clan Na Gael park.

SEAN O'MAHONYS 1-13
ST JOSEPHS 2-9

Sean O'Mahaonys qualified for the Intermediate Championship Final at the third attempt after squeezing past St Josephs after another night of drama at Clan na Gael Park.

Thursday's game followed a similar pattern to the two drawn encounters with both sides displayed some good attacking football with the result in doubt right up to the final whistle.

Ultimately it was a late goal from Stephen Kilcoyne and a point from Stephen Fisher that proved the difference as the Point Road men set up a meeting with St Fechins as the gallant St Josephs just missed out.

The game began with both sides missing chances, before Alan Quigley opened the scoring for the Joes. Boosted by that score, the Joes pushed forward and Mark Neary hit the net after being set up by Tomas Smyth, while Conall O'Hanlon added a point to make it 1-2 to no score.

The O'Mahonys had to dig deep to display their famed fighting spirit to stay in the game but the Joes retained the upper hand as they led by 1-5 to 0-3 inside the second quarter.

However points from Conor Finnegan and Kilcoyne (2), had their side very much back in the game at the break as they reduced the gap to 1-5 to 0-6.

The Dromiskin side were denied by two fines saves early in the second half as the opening four points were but four unanswered points from Liam Dullaghan, Kilcoyne, John O'Brien and Fisher saw the O'Mahonys ahead by 0-12 to 1-7.

However, the momentum switched back to the Joes when they added a second goal when Derek Mulligan set up Quigley to palm the ball to the net which helped them lead by 2-8 to 0-12. The Dundalk men weren't finished and regained the lead after Kilcoyne's fine goal before Fisher added a point.

In a frantic finale, the Joes fought to save the game but could only add one point to their tally from a Quigley free as the O'Mahonys held out for victory despite losing Conor Martin and David Dowling to black cards late in the game.
