Connie Receives "Louth County Camogie Player of the Decade" Award

September 22, 2014

Connie is presented with her award by President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor.

Congratulations to St. Anne's stalwart Connie Crehan on her selection as Louth's Player of the Decade.

The County Players of the Decade initiative is a key part of the Camogie Association's 110th anniversary celebrations. Clubs and counties were invited to nominate their Player of the Decade, who had demonstrated sportsmanship, playing excellence at inter-county level, longevity of playing career and dedication to their club and County. The Camogie Association invited all County Boards to submit their nomination for their own respective County. Long serving Connie Crehan more than met the required criteria, and it was no surprise to all when Connie was announced as the Louth recipient.

Connie has had a long and distinguished career in Camogie as a player, administrator and coach and was part of the victorious 1982 Louth All Ireland Junior team.  With her club, she won many county championship and club championship honours. However, age seems of have had little effect on Connie who started her playing career many years ago, as she still lines out for her club and was a key figure in St. Anne's 2013 Senior Championship victory. She has made many attempts at retiring but every now and then she gets the call from selectors to give a hand-out to her team and it's without hesitation that she obliges.  Her commitment and love for sport and particularly her loyalty to her club that gives her the edge over most players.

Connie travelled to Croke Park on Sunday 13th September 2014 to the awards ceremony which was held in conjunction with the All Ireland Camogie Championship Finals.  The recipients were honoured at a lunch and were presented with their awards by President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor.
