The 2013 Junior Championship runners-up, Naomh Fionnbarra, remain on course to go one better this year after they defeated Westerns by 2-11 to 0-11 to book their place in the semi-finals.

The Ballygassan side based their success on a solid first half display which saw them lead by 0-10 to 0-3 at the interval.

The Westerns came out with renewed determination and once again inspired by the scoring of Tommy Durnin who finished with seven points, they took the game to their opposition.

However, their hopes of completing a dramatic comeback were dashed as the Finbarrs got in for two crucial goals to secure a six-point win. William Woods was the man to find the net on both occasions, with the second coming from a penalty.

The Finbarrs will play Oliver Plunketts in the last four after the Drogheda men had little difficulty in their clash with St Kevins as they came out on top by 0-19 to 0-0.

Frank Taaffe top-scored for the winners with six points, while Trevor Walsh and Cian Matthews scored three apiece.

At half time the Plunketts were leading by 0-8 to no score and they added a further 11 points as a disappointing St Kevins failed to raise a flag.

Sean McDermotts also made it through to the last four of the championship when they encountered little resistance in seeing off the challenge of John Mitchels.

The Mountrush side were in fine form in front of the posts and their eye for a goal proved decisive as they ran out winners by 5-8 to 0-8.

Two early points from David O'Neill and Peter Osborne had the Seans in front before they took a firm grip on proceedings when Osborne scored two goals in quick succession.

Just before the break, Kevin Carroll fired in a third to put his side in a strong position at half time with a 3-5 to 0-3 advantage.

The Mitchels improved after the break but they never looked capable of staging a comeback as Tony Kelly twice found the net to seal the win.

The McDermotts will battle it out with Glen Emmets for the place in the decider after the Tullyallen men came back from seven points down at the break to defeat Lannleire by 2-13 to 3-6.

The Dunleer side were in impressive form in the first half and they rattled in three goals to take a deserved 3-5 to 1-4 lead at half time. A goal from James Butler kept the Emmets in touch despite a rather lacklustre display.

However, they were a transformed side after the break and hauled themselves right back into the game with a series of points, while Butler grabbed a second goal from the penalty spot to complete the four-point success.
