Pearse Og Advance to Tain League Final
April 22, 2012
Pearse Og progressed to the final of the Tain League with a 4-14 to 0-4 win over fellow Louth team St. Feichins this afternoon.
Pearse Og won the toss and opted to play with the wind at their backs for the first 30 minutes. After 10 minutes the game was even with the sides exchanging frees with Brain McCabe and Paddy Lynch equally matched from the dead ball. In the remaining 20 minutes of the half the Pearse Og half back line of Andy McCrave, Domhaill McArdle and Conal Lavery began to flex their muscle and feed their forwards with quick accurate ball which left the St. Feichins defence on the back foot as they registered 3 goals from the sticks of Aidan Callan and Dave Mahoney and an optimistic effort from 20 metres off the boot of Charlie O Hagen as the ball trickled into the net having evaded a mass of players from both sides. This spurred on the men from the holy family parish who pushed on to record points from Shane Callan, Gary O Brien, Matthew Boland and a massive score from club captain Andy McCrave to lead at the short whistle by 3-9 to 0-2.
The second half seen the Holy Family parish come up against a strong wind. However with the taste of victory in their mouths the Pearse Og men produced a defensive performance inspired by an impenetrable full back line of Mattie Myles, David Mulholland and Phillip McFaul. The outscored their counterparts by 1-5 to 0-2 in the second half to run out comfortable winners on a score line of 4-14 to 0-4.
An all-round solid performance from the goalkeeper to the full forward saw Domhaill McArdle again stand strong at centre half back with Brain McCabe and Gary O Brien constantly pressuring in the middle and Matthew Boland, Dave o Mahoney, Aidan Callan and Charlie O Hagen being ruthless in front of goal. St Feichins had stand out performances from full back Barry Duggan, midfielder Paddy McCormack and young corner forward Paddy Lynch
They now look forward to next Saturday and a final appearance against Clonguish of Longford who defeated Lurgan Sean Traceys on a score line of 0-15 to 1-10.
