Tributes to McAlester at Meath board meeting

April 19, 2012
Meath Chairman Barney Allen led the tributes to Louth GAA stalwart Charlie McAlester who passed away earlier in the week. The Rathkenny clubman said that Charlie paid social visits to him on a number of occasions and that he would be sadly missed by the association in the Wee County.

After a minute's silence was observed, former Meath chairman Pat O'Neill chipped in with further words of appreciation. Charlie was Louth's kit man for nearly 40 years and O'Neill said the Drogheda man was well known to GAA supporters in Meath, especially in the east of the county.

During his long stint as the Louth kit man, Charlie often washed county jerseys in his own home and the veteran St Colmcille's clubman related a story of a person calling to the McAlester household on an occasion where there were four washing machines going with four different sets of jerseys in them.
