Brilliant new Poc Fada website

Tipperary's Brendan Cummins lets fly during the 2009 Martin Donnelly Poc Fada on Annverna Mountain - INPHO
A superb new website dedicated to promoting An Poc Fada is online.
The brainchild of Shay Larkin,
www.anpocfada.net is dedicated exclusively to the annual An Poc Fada event which takes places every August Bank Holiday weekend on the Cooley Mountains. The site is a goldmine of information on the history of the event and will store vital archival information as well as listing fixtures, dates etc.
As a fan and spectator, Shay decided to build the new website due to his frustration at the lack of media coverage this novel All-Ireland event receives. Before now, there was precious little information available as to where the event was taking place and when.
The new dedicated site went live at the end of June but Shay had been working on it since January, assembling all his information and statistics as well as learning how to build his own webpage. It's still a work in progress as the Cooley resident is working away adding more depth and scope to the excellent site.
Next year, he plans to start including dates for provincial finals and eventually will also be publicising the county finals (which are never mentioned in fixtures anywhere else).
As a keen hillwalker, Shay is fascinated by the geography, history and mythology of Cooley and the traditional significance of hurling to the area. He was elected PRO of the Poc Fada committee this year and says his aim is to develop a comprehensive, all-inclusive website that leaves nothing out. All feedback is welcome.
An underage hurling coach in Cooley Kickhams, Shay has coincided the launch of his site with the 50th anniversary of An Poc Fada. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the All-Ireland competition.
The 2010 An Poc Fada takes place on the Annaverna Mountain on Saturday July 31st, pucking off at 12:30.
