Junior final replay on July 8

July 02, 2009
Louth's Leinster JFC final replay against Longford will be played in Pearse Park on Wednesday July 8. Sunday's drawn match was played in Croke Park and the Wee County led by five points with 13 minutes remaining only to see glory slip through their fingers. However, they still have a chance to claim a first provincial title at this level since 1966. Louth were the better team in the original fixture and should have won comfortably. Though they now have it all to do in the Midlanders' back yard, they know they are good enough to capture provincial gold and progress to an All-Ireland semi-final at the second time of asking. Reds manager Eamonn McEneaney was frustrated that the drawn game wasn't allowed to go to extra time: "I'm very disappointed that the powers that be couldn't have arranged the game 20 minutes earlier so that we could have played extra time. "It's specified in the rules quite clearly that all games are to be followed by extra time, but just because there's another game on after it and it's on TV, they couldn't finish the game."
