Culhane bidding for election history

Former Longford and Louth footballer Richie Culhane is aiming to become the first garda to be elected onto a borough council.
Culhane, who recently retired after 20 years of service as a garda and detective, is contesting the Drogheda Town Council elections on the Fine Gael ticket this Friday. He played for his native Longford and Louth in the Leinster football championship in the 1990s.
"I have a strong interest in youth clubs, sporting and recreational facilities for our young people so they have real alternatives to the 'pub culture'," he said.
