COD final: Blues double in sight

October 24, 2008
Newtown Blues are an hour away from a sensational league/championship double. The Drogheda club have already annexed the Joe Ward Cup (SFC) and are also through to the Cardinal O'Donnell Cup (Division One) decider. The final will be played at Clan na Gael Park on Sunday October 26 (3pm), with Cooley Kickhams providing the opposition. Cooley are the holders and have been competition specialists in recent years. They finished fourth on the final table but beat top side Mattock Rangers by 1-8 to 1-5 in their semi-final last weekend. The Blues had to dig deep to defeat Dundalk Gaels in their 'semi'. The Gaels had an outstanding league campaign and were most unfortunate to bow out on a 2-8 to 1-7 scoreline.
