U14 Match Report:

O’Raghallaighs 2-13, Na Piarsaigh / Sean O’Mahonys / Dowdallshill 4-03

O’Raghallaighs concluded their U14 championship campaign with a win away to a Na Piarsaigh/Sean O’Mahonys/Dowdallshill combination. Following defeats to St Patrick’s and a heartbreaking last minute loss to the Dreadnots, the young Hoops produced an excellent team display to ensure they wouldn’t finish bottom of their group.

Played in damp, windy conditions, the Raghs uncharacteristically got off the mark quickly, TJ Tuite opening the scoring with a well taken point, his first of 3 in the half. As the half progressed, the Raghs were the dominant side, with a superb team move the length of the pitch, that finished with a goal for Ben Goring, the highlight of the half. The Dundalk side never let the Hoops get away from them though, two goals ensuring the hosts were only behind 1-6 to 2-1 at break.

The second half was virtually a carbon copy of the first. The Hoops were playing all of the football, with some fine free taking from Kyle O’Brien helping to keep the scoreboard ticking over. But each time the Raghs pulled ahead, the hosts struck back & the game was in the melting pot entering the final 10 mins. A fine individual goal from Darragh Stone then saw the Hoops get their noses back in front. Captain Evan Black came to the fore in the closing minutes, making crucial blocks in defense before capping off another flowing move with a point to seal the victory for the visitors.
