June 13, 2019

St Marys remain top of Division 1 following Tuesday night’s games as they defeated Cooley Kickhams by 4-14 to 2-12 in Pairc Mhuire.

Ronan Carroll was the star of the show as he bagged 3-6 of his side’s tally in an impressive all-round display.

It was Mark Fay who opened the scoring with a goal in the early stages, while Carroll added two before the break to send his team in with a 3-7 to 0-9 lead.

Cooley hit back with goals from Joseph Quinn and Michael Rafferty in the second half but the Marys retained their advantage and Carroll completed his hat-trick late in the game to seal the win.

The Geraldines remain in second place in the table after a strong second half display saw them defeat St Patricks at Haggardstown by 2-21 to 1-9.

Jim McEneaney got the Gers off to a flying start with 1-1 inside the first five minutes, but the Pats came back strongly and Paddy Keenan found the net to see his side trail by just 1-6 to 1-4 at the break.

The hosts maintained their lead throughout the third quarter but they produced a strong finish with another goal from McEneaney and points from Dara Hamill ensuring a comfortable win.

Dreadnots slipped to third place in the table after they lost out to O Raghallaighs by 1-13 to 1-12 at the Gaelic Grounds.

Nathan Sutherland struck for an early goal to give the visitors the early advantage while Pepe Smith, Jay Huges and James Califf were also on target but the O Raghallaighs hit back and a late goal saw them go in at the break level at 1-7 apiece.

The teams traded scores in the third quarter but the hosts made the decisive move when they kicked five points in succession. That proved enough to see them over the line despite a late rally from the Dreadnots.

Mattock Rangers picked up an important win in a high scoring game as they ran out 5-14 to 3-9 winners over Clan na Gael at Castletown.

David Reid struck an early goal from a penalty before Billy Smith added two goals for the hosts. However, the Collon side were well on top at the break as goals from Aaron O’Brien, Shane Hickey and Daniel Bannon had them leading by 4-4 to 2-6 at half time.

Although Smith added a third goal for the Clans, they were unable to claw back the deficit as a goal from Oisin McKenna sealed the win for Mattock.

Nh Mairtin maintained their good run of form when they defeated St Brides by 3-13 to 1-10 at Knockbridge.

The Brides made a bright start but the Mairtins gained the initiative when JP Rooney found the net and just before the break Val Leddy added a second. There was time for the Brides to fight back and a point from Kevin Hearty was followed by a Bernard Laverty goal to cut the gap to 2-5 to 1-4 at half time.

Any hopes of a Brides comeback were ended after 36 minutes when Stephen Campbell got in for a third goal as his side went on to win by nine points.

Newtown Blues saw their revival continue as they defeated Sean O’Mahonys by 1-13 to 0-10 at Newfoundwell.

The early exchanges were evenly balanced but a goal from Jamie Kelly in the second quarter saw the Blues take control of the game and at the break they were leading by 1-9 to 0-5 with Robert Carr contributing vital points.

Stephen Kilcoyne did his best to keep the O’Mahonys in the game but the Blues had too much in reserve and the were worthy winners in the end.
