FL3A & 3B round-up: Lannleire move within a point of leaders as Westerns lose for first time

Division 3A

Lannleire are just a point behind leaders Roche Emmets after scoring a comfortable 3-21 to 1-8 win over Stabannon Parnells on Saturday night.

The game in Stabannon saw Lannleire get on top from the early exchanges and at the break they were leading by 2-10 to 0-5 at the break before going on to complete the win.

Bob Murphy, Colin Murphy and Paul Callan hit the net for the Dunleer side, while Colm Giggins claimed the goal for Parnells.

Glen Emmets remain in third place in the table after they defeated Na Piarsaigh by 3-11 to 1-11 on Saturday evening.

James Butler, David Bracken and Ronan Grufferty scored the goals for the Tullyallen outfit, while Jamie Gilkes, Keith Lynch, Kealan O’Neill and Sean Byrne weighed in with points.

Division 3B

Westerns saw their winning start to Division 3B come an end when they were beaten by John Mitchels on a scoreline of 3-12 to 0-8. The game saw the Reaghstown men drop their first points after seven successive victories, while the result moves the Mitchels into third place in the table.

Sean McDermotts took advantage to the Westerns slip as they defeated Cuchulainn Gaels by 2-16 to 1-6 to close the gap to just four points with a game in hand.

A fine second half performance gave the home side a deserved win over a spirited Cuchulainn Gaels side who had their best spell at the end of the first half when scoring a Lorcan Myles goal and two points to leave just three points in it at thebreak, 1-7 to 1-4.

The Sean’s took control in the second half with two Tony Kelly points followed by a fine Kevin McMahon effort, two more Kelly points followed this time by a goal from the boot of Peter Osborne left the home side out of sight.

Wolfe Tones and St Nicholas played out an entertaining draw in Drogheda on Saturday night with a late point from Niall Smith securing a home draw for the Tones on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-9.

St Nicholas went 0-4 to no score up after six minutes but the Tones eventually settled into the game with scores from Darren Weldon and Gareth Cooney. However, the Nicks cored the only goal of the game to send the Nicks in leading by 1-6 to 0-6 at the break.

In a tight second half the Nicks looked set for victory when they took the lead in the closing stages but Smith came through to kick a score right at the death to level this game. 

Meanwhile Annaghminnon Rovers scored their first away win of the campaign when they defeated Dowdallshill by 2-9 to 0-9 in St Brigid’s Park.

Shane McMahon scored the first goal of the game to help his side to ensure Rovers went into the break level at 1-4 to 0-7. The second period saw the visitors dominate and a second goal from Aidan Lee Martin secured the victory.
