Hunterstown Rovers sent out a warning to their Division 2 rivals by opening their campaign with a comprehensive 3-10 to 0-5 victory away to Glyde Rangers.

The visitors made a blistering start to the game and by the time the half time whistle sounded they were in a commanding 3-3 to 0-3 lead with the goals coming from Glen Matthews (2) and Ryan Burns.

Hunterstown continued to dominate after the break and although they didn't add to their goal tally, they stretched the lead to 14 points at full time. Glyde scores came from Brian Duffy (3) and Trevor O'Brien (2), while Paul Carrie kicked three points for Rovers.

Oliver Plunketts also began the league season with a 1-14 to 1-10 win at home to Roche Emmets.

The visitors were hoping to mark their return to Division 2 with victory and were very much in contention at the break when a goal from Kevin Callaghan helped them to lead by 1-5 to 0-7.

However, the Plunketts upped their game in the second period and a goal from Cian Brady, who finished with 1-5, helped them claim victory. Trevor Walsh (4) and Emmet Kelleher (2) also kicked important points.

St Mochtas turned on the style in the second half to record a 1-12 to 0-8 win over Glen Emmets in Tullyallen.

The opening half was an entertaining affair with both sides kicking some good points, but in the end it was the Mochtas who had the edge as they led by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break.

The Emmets were unable to maintain that effort in the second period as the Mochtas moved up a gear, and Danny Kindlon ensured victory when he scored the only goal of the game.

Also on the scoresheet for the winners were Declan Byrne, Stephen McCooey and Gerry Garland. James Butler was top scorer for the Emmets with five points.

Late points from Joseph Corrigan and Niall Devlin helped St Fechins seal a 1-11 to 0-11 win over Kilkerley Emmets on Sunday morning.

A goal from Ronan Holcroft saw the Fechins take an early 1-3 to 0-1 lead but the Emmets hit back with scores from Tadhg McEneaney, Shane Lennon and James Fegan to level the game at 1-4 to 0-7 going into the break.

Points from Ronan Holcroft and Conor Haughney saw the home side regain the initiative but Kilkerley hit back to level with McEneaney, Lennon and Ciaran McGlynn on target.

However, the Fechins finished the stronger and points from Corrigan (2) and Devlin saw them begin the season with a victory.

O Raghallaighs proved too strong for Nh Fionnbarra as they returned to Drogheda with a 3- 17 to 1-5 victory on Sunday.

The visitors took a firm grip on this game from the opening whistle and although they had an early scare when Joe Flanagan saved well from William Woods, they went on to take a comfortable 0-10 to 0-1 lead at the break.

The Finbarrs picked up the pace after the break and grabbed a goal though Hugh Osborne, but the O Raghallaighs were always in control and added three goals from Barry Flanagan (2) and Ben Rogan to seal the win.

A strong finish from St Josephs saw them take the points against neighbours O'Connells on a 1-9 to 0-10 scoreline at Cluskey Park.

The Joes made the brighter start to the game and edged ahead when Alan McKenna scored the only goal of the game after nine minutes. Points from Stefan O'Hanrahan and Robert Quigley helped the O'Connells stay in touch as they cut the gap to 1-3 to 0-3 at the break.

Quigley helped the Bellingham side get back on terms with ten minutes to play but it was the Joes who grabbed the crucial scores through Daire Smyth, Alan Quigley and Alan McKenna to seal the win.
