Connerton keen to shore up defence

Longford manager Denis Connerton has stressed that they must stop conceding goals if they are to prolong their season.

The Midlanders take on Louth at the Gaelic Grounds, Drogheda on Saturday evening (5pm) in the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.

Conceding four goals against Laois in the Leinster SFC highlighted their defensive frailties ahead of the clash against a side that defeated them in the league earlier in the year.

"Teams have been very clinical in punishing us. One aspect is the fact we have been conceding goals and not scoring enough goals is also something we are concerned about," Connerton told the Longford Leader.

Connerton added that he hoped to see a large crowd travel from Longford for the game in Drogheda.

"I really hope the Longford supporters travel to Drogheda in big numbers to get behind the team. They are great lads who have put a huge amount of work into playing for their county."
