Dromard and St. Francis club notes

On Friday last our seniors travelled to Michael Fay Park to play Longford Slashers in round 6 of the All County league. We opened the scoring with a pointed free. The home side landed 2 points to move ahead. We drew level with a well taken Diarmuid Masterson point from play. The town side scored a brace with Declan Mimnagh replying with a point from open play. Slashers had the last say of the half scoring the last score before the break. The half time score was Dromard 0-03 Longford Slashers 0-05. Our opponents had a dominant spell in the early stages of the second half scoring 2-03 with our only response being a pointed free. This stirred our players into action and we rallied scoring an unanswered 1-03 to leave the final score Dromard 1-07 Longford Slashers 2-08. This was a spirited performance from our team but it was the visitors who collected both points. Fixtures for next week are Reserve league Div. 1 at home with Abbeylara this Friday at 8pm and reserve league 4 on Saturday away to Killoe at 7.30pm. St. Francis - Dromard
Our u13s travelled to Moran Park on Monday last. However the game did not go ahead due to a waterlogged pitch. On Tuesday our under 10's mixed community games panel travelled to Keenan Park to take on Ardagh in the semi final of this competition. The home side had the better of the early exchanges opening up a 1-02 lead. We responded with 2 goals to go into the lead. Our opponents goaled before half time to leave the score line Dromard 2-0 Ardagh 2-02. On the turnover, despite some very good defending and goalkeeping Ardagh made their pressure count getting scores to extend their lead. A fine Aron Farrell goal did keep us in touch but we trailed at the final whistle. Well done to all players who performed really well on the evening. We had 2 teams on the evening that played games with Kenagh, Grattan Gaels and Shroid. Thanks to all children and parents who travelled on the evening. Players who were in action on the evening were, Shane O'Hara Allen, Thomas Maguire, Nichole Conboy, Allysa McErlane, Alan Corcoran, Ronan Corcoran, Rory O'Toole, Avril Cosgrove, Tamara Cosgrove, Sean Conboy, Aron Conboy, Jamie Conboy, Oisín Conboy, Aisling Farrell, Ian McLoughlin, Niall McLoughlin. On Wednesday next it's the turn of our under 10's to play a blitz in Shroid this week. On Saturday our under 12's had a useful challenge against Longford Slashers in Pairc na Gael. This was an enjoyable workout with all our players performing very well. This year's Cúl Camps will take place from July 9th to 13th in Dromard. Football, Hurling, Camogie, Rounders and Handball activities will be offered over the course of the camp.
