Longford County Board has been stunned by the refusal of planning permission for its proposed Centre of Excellence.

An Bord Pleanala refused planning permission for the centre at Lyneen, Killashee, leaving PRO John Duffy almost lost for words:

"I am shocked it has been refused. I haven't had any official correspondence but if it is true then obviously I am very disappointed to hear that.

"It's a blow to Longford County Board's plans and I'm sure there will be meetings called over the next few days to discuss this.

"We will be getting our experts to look at it and all avenues will be explored." Tweet
