Dates set for decisive fixtures in Longford SFC
August 12, 2010
The dates have been set for the decisive fixtures in the Longford senior football championship, with the final due to take place on the final Sunday of September.
The first two quarter-finals, which see Abbeylara meet Rathcline and Dromard take on Cashel, are down for decision this Saturday and Sunday respectively, with both games taking place at Pearse Park.
The third quarter-final between Longford Slashers and either Clonguish or Mullinalaghta St Columba's will be played on Saturday week (August 21) with Killoe Young Emmets meeting Mostrim in the final quarter-final tie the following day.
Then, the winners of Abbeylare-Rathcline and Dromard-Cashel face off in the first semi-final on Sunday, August 29 with the other penultimate round encounter (Slashers or Clonguish or Mullinalaghta v Killoe or Mostrim) on Sunday, September 5.
If all those games go ahead without unforeseen hitches or drawn-out replay sagas, the Longford SFC final will be played at Pearse Park on Sunday, September 26.
Meanwhile, the round-robin tournament to decide relegation from the senior football championship gets under way this weekend with games between Sean Connollys and Ardagh St Patrick's (Pearse Park, Saturday) and Fr Manning Gaels and Granard St Mary's (Pearse Park, Sunday).
The four sides will play each other once, with the final two games to be played - World Cup-style - simultaneously under lights on Friday, August 27 in order to prevent any cloak-and-dagger dealings.
Score difference will apply if any two sides finish level on points, while the bottom club of the four will be relegated to the intermediate football championship for 2011.
