Fox rues "sickening" defeat
August 05, 2010
Longford minor manager Ciaran Fox described his team's one-point defeat to Galway as a "sickening" way to end their season.
The Leinster champions were pipped by the Tribesmen at Dr Hyde Park by a 0-10 to 1-6 score-line which saw them denied a place in the last four of the ESB All-Ireland MFC series and Fox felt some missed early chances cost his side.
"We missed a lot in the first-half," Fox admitted afterwards.
"Of course you are worried when the game goes against you but we were fighting hard and at half-time we knew we were in with a great chance. We just had to take those scores. Obviously when we missed a few chances there was serious pressure on us."
Fox also conceded that the timing of Robbie Smyth's goal, which gave the midlanders the half-time lead, may have actually worked against Longford in the end.
"In the ideal world, if anything at all, came too early. We would have taken it five or ten minutes later. We were playing serious opposition and that told in the very end once Galway got ahead," he said.
