SFC: Slashers pass Mostrim test
August 05, 2010
Longford Slashers 1-11
Mostrim 0-9
Longford Slashers put on foot into the quarter-finals of the county senior football championship on Saturday evening last when they saw off Mostrim's challenge with five points to spare at Emmet Park.
The winners were on top for the majority of the first-half, having fallen behind early on, and stormed into the lead with three unanswered points from Colin Smith (2 frees) and Stephen Philips.
That sent the Slashers on their way towards a 0-7 to 0-5 interval a well-struck '45' from Adrian Murphy ignited them for the remainder of the half.
Brian Farrell had grabbed a badly needed score for Mostrim just before the break to try and stem the tide, but the Longford town side hit their purple patch after the restart which would ultimately decide this contest.
Points from Philips, Mark Smith and Colin Smith were allied with a goal from the latter which left Mostrim playing catch up as they fell eight a drift, and in the end they could only trim the deficit by three.
