All-Ireland MFC: O Griofa shoots down Longford
August 01, 2010
Peadar O Griofa's five second half points helped Galway to a narrow victory over Leinster champions Longford in yesterday's ESB All-Ireland MFC quarter-final at Dr Hyde Park.
Galway 0-10
Longford 1-6
The beaten Connacht finalists looked to be in big trouble when Robbie Smith's goal gave Longford a 1-5 to 0-5 advantage entering the final quarter. But Micheal Breathnach clubman O Griofa then came to the fore when he landed four uanswered points to ensure a semi-final date for the Tribesmen against the winners of today's remaining quarter-final between Cork and Armagh.
The sides were level on 0-3 apiece at half-time, but Gerry Fahy's charges shaded the second half to get their season back on track following their Connacht final loss to Mayo.
