We opened our junior B championship on Wednesday last when we had Longford Slashers as visitors. Our charges started brightly and opened up a 4 point to nil lead. While enjoying plenty of possession we had a couple of missed goal opportunities. By half time the score was Dromard 0-5 Slashers 0-1. With about 15 minutes gone in the second half we had opened up a 0-10 to 0-3 lead. Slashers fought back strongly and had narrowed the margin to 3 points when they were awarded a penalty. Gavin Mc Nerney made a terrific save only for the rebound to be finished to the net. It was to remain level at full time on the scoreline of Dromard 0-11 Longford 1-8. Subs used; Fergal Berry and John McNaboe. On Saturday we played Sean Connolly's in Junior A championship in Pairc na Gael. Our opponents went into a 3-point to no score lead. Despite having a fair share of possession our team didn't make it count on the scoreboard. At half time the score was Dromard 0-2 Sean Connollys 0-6. The second half saw us pull 2 points back but Connolly's then struck with a goal leaving us 5 points in arrears. Our team battled back to get the last 5 points of the game to earn a share of the spoils. St Francis - Dromard
On Monday our minors travelled to Bornacoola where they played a minor challenge. We came out on top on the evening on the scoreline 3-6 to 1-4. Team and scorers; Niall McManus, Keith Masterson, James Kenny, Peadar Martin, Michael Reynolds, David Cosgrove (1-0), Neil Cosgrove (0-2), Stephen Kenny, Graham Campbell (1-0), Gary Maguire (1-4). On Tuesday last our under14's played Carrigallen in a closely contested challenge game in Pairc na nGael. On Wednesday our under 8's travelled to St Mel's for a county blitz. Our team played 3 games against Southern Gaels, Grattan Gaels and Shannon Gaels and players on duty were Joshua Grey, Karen McLoughlin, Cathal Reilly, Shauna Hagan, Oisín O'Toole, Jason Grimes, Shane Grimes, Christopher Grimes, Kate Masterson, Ollie Duffy, Matt Duffy. Thanks to parents for attending and organising transport. On Thursday our under 12's played Grattan Óg in St Mel's College grounds. The home side got off to a good start and held a 6 goal to 1 goal lead at half time. The second half saw our team picking off some fine scores. The score at the final whistle was Grattan's 9-8 St Francis 3-8.Team and scorers; Gabriel Gray, Daragh O'Toole, Éanna Mimnagh, Dylan McCormack, Niall Gray, Luke McEntire (0-4), Martin Mc Stay (0-1),Joe Hagan (0-2),Ronan Blakely (1-1), Jason Murtagh (1-0), Oisín Hourican (1-0), Fíachra Grey. On Thursday our under 16 panel travelled to Maguire park to play Clonbroney/Wolfe Tones in their last game in the under 16 league. Our team got into their stride early playing good football and picking off some good scores. By half time the score was St Francis 2-5 Clonbroney/Wolfe Tones 1-2. The second half saw us build on our lead and at full time the scoreline was St Francis 4-12 Clonbroney/Wolfe Tones 2-4.Team and scorers.
