SFC: Clonguish edge out Ardagh
July 22, 2010
Clonguish 1-13
Ardagh St Patrick's 2-8
Clonguish held off a brave challenge from Ardagh St Patrick's at Emmet Park on Saturday to register their first win in this year's county senior football championship.
The champions looked to be cruising after the first 30 minutes as they took in a 0-9 to 0-3 half-time lead but, to their credit, St Patrick's battled back brilliantly to make a game of it in the second-half.
A David Farrell goal brought the Saints right back into the contest, but when David Faughan responded in kind for Clonguish the stuffing looked to be knocked out of the champions.
However, St Pat's rallied and when Val Bohan set-up Philip Gillen for their second goal only a point stood between the sides.
A Paddy Keenan free levelled matters, but scores from Paddy Dowd and Ciaran Williams couldn't have come at a better time as Clonguish ensured they'd start their title defence off with a victory.
