Ryan staying with Longford

Glenn Ryan was reappointed Longford football manager for a third year last night.

The Kildare legend's future with the midlanders looked in some doubt following a poor NFL campaign which saw the team finish just above London and Kilkenny in Division 4 but, after running eventual Leinster finalists Louth to four points in their championship opener, Ryan guided Longford to a sensational All-Ireland qualifier victory over Mayo.

They subsequently lost to Down by four points in Newry and Ryan met with his panel last week, at which the players made it clear they would favour him continuing in the job for another year.
