NFL 4: Longford salvage draw

March 07, 2010
A brace of late pointed frees from Francis McGee earned Longford a draw with Waterford at Dungarvan's Fraher Field.

Waterford 0-10
Longford 1-7

The visitors made a dream start when McGee fired home a first-minute penalty after referee Richard Moloney deemed that Declan Reilly had been fouled as he contested Jamesie Martin's high delivery. But Waterford rallied and points from Niall Hennessy, Tommy Prendergast, Brian Wall (three) and Michael Donnelly had them level, 1-3 to 0-6, at the interval.

The home side took the lead for the first time on the restart when Wall pointed a free, only for McGee to level immediately. Scores from Wayne Hennessy and Liam O Lionain had the Deise two points ahead by the 42nd minute, but after a further exchange of pointed frees between McGee and Wall, Waterford failed to score in the remaining 26 minutes.

And this scoring drought enabled Glenn Ryan's charges to take something from the game.
