Longford were made earn their first win in Division Four as they edged out a brave Cavan side by two points today at Michael Fay Park.

The sides couldn't be separated after the first 35 minutes as they went in at the break level on 0-7 to 1-4, with new Breffni marksman Bernard Gaffney bagging the goal for the visitors.

The early stages of the second-half saw both teams putting chances to waste, before Sean Browne hit the crucial score for Longford midway through the period.

Gaffney and Eugene Hill tried to pull Brendan Nelligan's charges back level after that, but Offaly native Declan Tanner made sure to cancel-out their efforts with some accurate pucks to steer Longford towards victory.
