St Francis Dromard GAA Club Notes

September 02, 2019

U14 Championship: Congratulations to the St. Francis U14 team on their excellent win in the U14 Championship and to their management team of Niall Vance and Anthony Maguire. Pearse Park was the setting for a wonderful display of attacking football from the teams of Dromard and Grattan Og. In a very tight affair, it was the North Longford team who eventually came out on top following an end to end battle for the full hour. It was Dromard who were first off the mark with a point from Rian Tuite and while scores were evenly spread throughout the half it was Dromard's ability to raise the green flag more regularly with Goals from Ben o Reilly, Ronan Corcoran and a wonderful team Goal from Eoghan Palin which led to an interval lead of 5-8 to 2-6. On the resumption it was Dromard off the mark first again with a point but Grattan Og to come storming back and reduce the arrears to 3 Points but the outstanding Ruari o’Toole in the middle of the park for Dromard who proved to be the difference as his ability to turn defence into attack proved crucial throughout the second period. He was very ably assisted in the middle by Shane o’Hara and the tireless William McEntire in this regard. With the clock ticking towards the finish and Grattan Og pushing for Parity it was o’Toole who fed Thomas Maguire for a breakaway and he passed to Ben o’Reilly who rounded the Netminder and scored what was to prove the clinching score. While Grattan Og fought Gallantly to the finish and tested Oran Grey in the goals it was not to be for the Stonepark outfit. Following the final whistle the trophy was presented to a very jubilant Dromard team. Final score-line of Dromard 6-16 Gratton Og 5-15. Panel on the day:. Final score was St. Francis 6 - 16 V Grattan Gaels 5-15. Thanks to referee Frank Toher..
