Dromard club notes

Senior Football Championship Round 1: Dromard 0-10 Clonguish 0-12.

Our senior footballers lost out narrowly to Clonguish in Round 1 of the championship played in Monaduff on Sunday. The game was a very closely contested affair played in difficult wet and windy conditions. Dromard got off to an excellent start with three unanswered points from play from James Martin, Cian Mimnagh and Ronan McEntire with 10 minutes played. After this great start, Dromard struggled to add scores for the remainder of the half as Clonguish began to win more possession. Mid way through the half Dromard suffered a setback with the loss of Cian Mimnagh through injury. Francis McGee added to Dromard’s early tally with a point from a free to leave the half-time scoreline at Dromard 0-4 Clonguish 0.5. James Martin levelled the scores straight after half time with a free and then gave Dromard the lead with a fine point from play after a good move. Three excellent scores in a row (all from play) from Francis McGee, Dylan McCormack and Diarmuid Masterson gave Dromard a 9-6 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Although James Martin added his third score of the game, Clonguish finished strongly to claim a narrow win. A speedy recovery to Dylan McCormack, who played extremely well, but was forced off with an injury in the second half and to Cian Mimnagh.  Thank you to the Fr Manning Gaels club for having their pitch and facilities in excellent condition for the game.
