Patrickswell GAA notes

August 14, 2017

JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A Hurlers had a mixed week in the City Championship as they cruised past Monaleen, but were outdone by St. Patrick's.

Patrickswell were dominant against Monaleen and built a 0-5 to 0-2 lead after fifteen minutes. Cillian O'Reilly was in sparkling form as Patrickswell reached the interval at 0-9 to 0-3 ahead. Unfortunately for Monaleen, the second half was one-way traffic as they failed to score and the 'Well racked up a final score of 1-20 to 0-3. The goal came from Cillian O'Reilly.

Rolling forward just two days, Patrickswell faced St. Patrick's in the top-of the-table encounter. Peter Harty's 0-2 and a point from Geoffrey Foley opened a nice 0-3 to 0-1 advantage after ten minutes. St. Patrick's were tough opponents and retaliated with 1-3 unanswered. Points from Geoffrey Foley and Cillian O'Reilly steadied the team and the deficit was 0-5 to 1-4 at the break.

The second half witnessed a remarkable start as Peter Harty broke through the St. Patrick's defence to score a goal. Two minutes later, he dispatched a penalty into the bottom corner. Patrickswell looked in the driving seat at 2-6 to 1-5. Despite having 14 men, the Rhebogue men plundered three consecutive points to minimise the deficit at 2-6 to 1-8.

Peter Harty completed a remarkable hat trick; however Patrickswell were ravaged by a flurry of five points. With ten minutes left, the scoreboard was 3-6 to 1-13 against Damien Gillane's men. While Peter Harty equalised with a point, St. Patrick's surged forward and ended the contest with a devastating salvo of 1-3 in a row. The final score was 3-8 to 2-16. Patrickswell were already guaranteed a City semi-final berth.
