Patrickswell manager Gary Kirby admits that the club have waited too long to add to their tally of 18 county SHC titles.

Kirby won ten SHC medals as a player with the club and he is back as manager for a second term.

Last year, the 'Well lost to Na Piarsaigh and they then had to watch on as the city side went on to win the Munster and All-Ireland club titles.

Kirby stressed to the Limerick Leader that the aim this year was always to emulate last year's campaign.

"Winning the title is the ultimate goal. The motivation was there for the players to get back to the final and go one better than last year," said Kirby.

The 'Well manager knows that they will face a tough test against neighbours Ballybrown in Sunday's final.

"I went into their semi-final and I really didn't mind who won. They were excellent and are in this final on merit. There is a great rivalry and it's nice to have the two from the parish in the final. Hurling is about rivalry."
