Kildimo/Pallaskenry Club Notes

Intermediate Hurlers

The date has been set for the next game for our intermediate hurlers in this year's Championship. We face Claughaun in Mungret on Sunday week, the 31st of May at 7.30pm and we hope that there will be a big crowd in support for a match on so close to home. The Tuesday night league match against Cappamore will be good preparation for the match.

Limerick Intermediate Hurlers
Congratulations to Barry O'Connell who has made a very strong Limerick intermediate panel who are set to play the Clare intermediate team before next weekend's Munster Championship opener against the Banner. Throw-in for Barry and his teammates is set to be at 2pm, with the senior fixture at 4pm, and hopefully those attending the match from the club will get in early to support both Limerick teams.

Tralee IT Sportsperson of the Year
Congratulations to Peter Nash who was awarded Tralee IT Sportsperson of the Year during the week, which is a huge achievement for him personally. Tralee IT is a college which has a huge reputation for sport, has seen some of the best footballers ever to play the game attend and is currently filled with many intercounty stars. Peter has had a great year and is set to go from strength to strength; from being a key player and leading the club to a Munster final, playing Sigerson Cup for his college and inspiring his county to stay in Division 3 scoring three cracking goals as well as being an inspiration off the field. This has all been recognised in this accolade from Tralee IT.

Mackey Cup
Congratulations to Micheál Cuddihy who featured in the Mackey Cup last Tuesday, the 12th of May. It was a great achievement to feature amongst the cream of talent in Limerick schools.

Junior Hurlers
Hard luck to our junior hurlers, who, missing several players, suffered a heavy defeat away to Patrickswell on Saturday evening in the City Junior A Hurling League.

Premier Minor Football Championship: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-11 Mungret St. Paul's 4-05
Despite a decent display of point-scoring, our minor footballers fell to Mungret in the opening round of the top tier of Limerick minor football. Mungret's ability to hit goals proved costly for us but there was plenty to be encouraged on and to improve upon for the rest of the Championship

U-15 Football Division 2: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 1-07 Askeaton/Ballysteen 1-07
A tough, closely-fought encounter which ended in a draw was still enough for our U-15 footballers to top the group and to reach the county final, where they will face Na Piarsaigh. It is a reflection of all the hard work they and the management team have put in this year and we hope they can come out on top in the final. They have also managed to reach the final in the hurling Championship, after a massive victory last week, and will face either Monaleen or Ballybrown in that decider. It has been a hugely successful year in both codes already, and hopefully it can be capped off with some silverware.

U-14 Football Division 2: Kildimo Pallaskenry 8-09 Shannon Gaels 3-01
Our U-14 footballers got their season off to a winning start with a comprehensive win over Shannon Gaels on Wednesday evening. Playing against a slight breeze in the first half we opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a point from JJ Mulchair. Rory Cullen goaled five minutes later, and within the next five minutes we had two more goals from Luke Guinane and Aaron O'Donovan. Micheál Cuddihy rounded off our 1st half scoring with a couple of pointed frees between which Shannon Gaels got their only score of the half; when a high 'hit and hope' ball found its way to the back of the net. The half-time score was Kildimo/Pallaskenry 3-03 Shannon Gaels 1-0.
Micheál pointed another free within two minutes of the restart and some good work by him put Rory through to score his second goal. Shannon Gaels hit back straight away with a goal but this was immediately cancelled out with a fine solo effort from JJ. Aaron followed this with a quick goal and point and further scores from Micheál, JJ, Rory, Aaron and Ciaran Galvin saw us run out winners on a 8-09 to 3-01 score line.
This was a great start to the season but there will be tougher games ahead. However, all 17 players used showed great attitude and ability combined with excellent team work so roll on the next game!

Team and Scorers: Garry Sheehan; Ciaran Downes, Jamie Galvin (Captain), Sean Staff; Jai Chaudri, Aaron O'Donovan (2-02), Jeffrey Broderick; JJ Mulchair (1-02), Ciaran Galvin (1-0); Luke Guinane (1-0); Micheal Cuddihy (0-05), Adam Gibbs; Dylan O'Brien, Rory Cullen (3-0), Ben Fleming; Conor Rowley, Ciaran Barry.
