Injured Limerick goalkeeper Nickie Quaid is confident that whoever takes his place for the Munster SHC opener against Clare will be up to the task.

Quaid is recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in training and has been ruled out of the match on Sunday week.

There has been panic amongst Limerick supporters as to who will replace Quaid as Hospital-Herbertstown's Aaron Murphy or Kilmallock's Barry Hennessy vie for the position.

But, Quaid has given both 'keepers the seal of approval and he stressed to the Limerick Leader that the county have always produced top class goalkeepers down through the years.

"Both are excellent goalies, we will be in safe hands," stated Quaid. "All I can do is back them 100% - I have no doubt that whoever plays there will be no fear of them. Both are extremely good goalkeepers and both have a lot of experience behind them so I would have no doubts.

"Down through the years there have been some brilliant goalies and we would all like to think that we are good enough to make it but none of us are ever sure of our place because it's always picked on form.

"I just hope that whoever gets the nod on Sunday week will perform to the best of their ability and I have no doubt that they will."
