Senior Hurling Championship.

When the draw for this year's City Senior Hurling Championship was made the mouth watering tie had to be the meeting of Ballybrown and Patrickswell.  On Tuesday evening last in Mungret both teams were battling for a Final berth against City Kingpins Na Piarsaigh who had accounted for Monaleen in the first Semi-Final. The game was only into the first minute when Patrickswell scored via free form Jack Kelleher. Ballybrown responded with two points from Alan O'Connor. Further points from Ballybrown were quickly cancelled with a Patrickswell goal from Centre Forward Sheehan. Midway through this half the scores were deadlocked at Ballybrown 0-7 to Patrickswell's 1-4. A further flurry of points had Ballybrown in the driving seat and when Shane Kenny's first attempt on goal was blocked superbly by Brian Murray, Kenny made no mistake from the rebound to finish to the net. A brace of points from both sides saw the interval score of Ballybrown 1-12 to Patrickswell's 1-7. The first half of this encounter was indeed a joy to watch as the hurling was free flowing from both sides. The second period saw some substitutions being made and the game never hit the same tempo as the first half. Ballybrown had moved into a 1-16 to 1-10 lead before a Fracas developed that resulted in a player from both sides being sent from the field of play by the Referee. The game finished on a score-line of Ballybrown 1-22 to Patrickswell's 1-13. Ballybrown entered this match minus a number of players that would be seen as starters and it was good to see that there are replacements there to fill vital positions and they had eight different players on the score sheet. Patrickswell likewise were missing Key players that will indeed make a positive contribution to their game plan in the coming months.
