Browne: we can handle pressure

Paul Browne says Limerick can cope with the heightened expectations surrounding the team.

After coming up short against Clare and Kilkenny in the last two All-Ireland SHC semi-finals, the Bruff clubman admits there is pressure on TJ Ryan's men to deliver silverware this year.

"At this stage to be honest, we're only interested in winning things in Limerick. There's a great panel of players there. There's 30 lads and every one of them could stake a claim to being in the first 15," he said at yesterday's Fitzgibbon Cup launch.

"Teamwork is going better this year. The extra stuff we're doing - pilates, diets, all that extra-stuff - it's all going well for us and lads have really bought into it."

He added: "It's something to build on but it also brings a pressure that we're probably not used to either. Limerick a couple of years back would have had that surprise factor. You'd be saying they'd play well only they'd fall away.

"Now we're expected to play well and drive through and finish the game. That expectation comes from ourselves too. There's huge pressure there on us for the league as well. Waterford, Wexford, all those teams are going to be gunning to take a scalp out of us."
