Plea made for Hawk-Eye at Gaelic Grounds

Limerick GAA secretary Mike O'Riordan has urged Croke Park officials to install Hawk-Eye at the Gaelic Grounds.

Despite on glitch that involved the Limerick minor hurlers in the 2013 All-Ireland MHC semi final, Hawk-Eye has been an invaluable piece of equipment installed at Croke Park.

The system has been used many teams during games including this year's All-Ireland SHC final drawn game as it correctly ruled that Tipperary forward John O'Dwyer's last ditch free was wide of the target and the game went to a replay which Kilkenny subsequently won.

Now, Limerick feel that their grounds should benefit from the system too as grounds like Semple Stadium, Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Casement Park have all been mentioned as possible locations.

"I would be concerned with the proposed installation of Hawk-Eye in Thurles and the redevelopment stadia of Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Casement Park and I have formally requested that the Ennis Road venue would be included in that venture," the Limerick Leader reports O'Riordan as saying.

"The main highlights of the year for the Gaelic Grounds was the NHL semi-finals held last April and the hosting of the All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay at the end of August.

"Both events proved that the venue is well capable of hosting major events despite the negativity in particular surrounding the latter."
