Limerick ace Graeme Mulcahy has admitted that he could not watch this year's All-Ireland senior hurling final.

The Shannonsiders had already beaten one finalist, Tipperary, in the Munster SHC and narrowly lost out to another in eventual winners Kilkenny and Mulcahy admits that it was tough to see both progressing to the Liam McCarthy Cup decider, while he and his team mates wait for their opportunity again next year.

"If we are beaten I always find it hard to sit down and watch games," Mulcahy told the Irish Daily Star. "I'd always feel that we should be there, even if we didn't deserve it at the time.

"I couldn't watch the All-Ireland final to be honest, knowing they (Tipperary and Kikenny) were there. The year before it was different feeling with Clare having beaten us and we didn't perform.

"Kilkenny beating us, and having beaten Tipp, we knew we were well good enough to be there. That's a place we want to be and next year when it comes down to it, if we have that bit more maturity we can push and beat the likes of Kilkenny. You need that bit of experience and I think the team is still young and it has a lot of games under its belt."

The Kilmallock man feels that having TJ Ryan at the helm again next year will be a major boost to Limerick's chances.

"TJ is a fantastic guy, he's really stepped up to the fore since Donal (O'Grady) left and lads have great respect for him," he said.

"He has the love for Limerick. The management team that are with him are all from Limerick, and they are all bringing the love of Limerick hurling to the table."
