The County Un.14 hurling Feile na nGael Final

Na Piarsaigh 2-05 Patrickswell 1-02

The County Un.14 hurling Feile na nGael final took place in front of a large crowd in Mungret last weekend and saw the usual high quality game from these old City Division rivals. Patrickswell played with the stiff breeze in the opening half and with Barry Kiely making dangerous runs it was only a matter of time before they took the lead. It came from a long distance free from midfield by Jason Gillane which deceived the defenders and dropped to the net. Na Piarsaigh responded and points from the outstanding Colin Sheils and a free by Padraig Heaney. There was but a point between them when Na Piarsaigh full forward Rueben McCarthy finished from close range after a sustained bout of pressure. Patrickswell attacked and a fierce shot at goal by Barry Kiely drew a point blank save from Na Piarsaigh netminder Barry Dunworth which was cleared to safety. Just before the break Na Piarsaigh got their second major score. Once again pressure was exerted on the Patrickswell goal and a short clearance broke to Jamie Mitchell who doubled on the ball and sent it to the net. This left the half time score Na Piarsaigh 2-03 Patrickswell 1-01. The second half saw Na Piarsaigh aided by the breeze but the defenders on both sides performed heroically and ensured chances were kept to a minimum. Dangerous corner forward James Daly had a quick point for Na Piarsaigh and this was cancelled out by Patrickswell substitute Daniel Feasey. The final score fell to Colin Sheils whose point restored Na Piarsaigh's two goal lead. Na Piarsaigh had scores from Rueben McCarthy (1-00), Jamie Mitchell (1-00), Colin Sheils (0-02), Padraig Heaney (0-02f), James Daly (0-01).
