West Junior B League
Ballysteen 2-5: Glin 1-4
We travelled to Ballysteen on Sunday evening last with 15 players due to exams, farewell parties and work commitments. The pitch was reminiscent of the weather of late which was terrible. We played into a gale force wind in the first half conceded 2 early points but defended stoutly. Our first score was a major by Tadhg Culhane after great work by Colin O Donovan at corner back linking well with Mackey delivering a long ball to Peadar Mulvihill who nudged it to Tadhg and he finished in style. We did well to contain Ballysteen to just 2 points before Tadhg again scored a beauty of a point after great work from Michael Sweeney and Peadar. Captain Michéal Sheehy was most unlucky in goals to concede a goal which was deflected just before half time.

> The second half saw us camped in the Ballysteen half, the wind at our backs, Brian Mulroe, Pat Madigan lording it at midfield with Shane Fitz Jnr., coming more into the game around the middle. The boys couldn't get the scores for the first 15 mins after a monopoly of possession. Disaster struck on the 17th minute when we conceded a goal from a long punt from the 45 which deceived our goalie with a little help from the wind. This was wake up time, Kevin Sweeney made a surging run up the field and had a pile driver tipped over the bar by their goalie. Shane Fitz tagged on two pointed frees to give us renewed hope. Michael Sweeney and Shane Fitz had two majors wonderfully saved by their goalie. As the final whistle sounded our lads were dejected as they certainly deserved more after a blood and guts effort. This was a massive team effort but there was a couple of stand out performances from Colin O Donovan at corner back who was majestic, but Michael Sweeney playing his third game of the day at centre back was central to all our good play. We now have to wait to see if we make the play off for League Semi Final.
