OFP Presents…
Strength & Conditioning Summer Camp for Young People 14-19 years
Through OFP's dealings with both high level sports persons and developing sports persons we have seen a massive need for teaching movement quality based strength and conditioning. We believe the introduction of functional movement screening and movement based functional strength training will not only enhance performance but will also dramatically reduce the likelihood of non-contact injuries in our developing athletes.
Most developing athletes are introduced to the gym environment without the correct screening and are never given an education on correct performance orientated strength training. At best they receive advice from some fitness publication and hit the gym with many a training myth been taken as fact based on hard science. This places our young developing athletes in danger of injury first and foremost and secondly places them in a poor environment for turning their potential into performance.
Objective:
It is our intention to provide a number of summer camp training opportunities for such developing athletes. We will offer these camps across the A to Z of sporting codes.
The camps will be structured with a theory and practical component each day. The theory of Strength & Conditioning will be shared to educate each participant to a safe level which will allow sound judgement and safety to be exercised in the gym environment. We will cover topics such as screening, nutrition & supplementation, lifting technique, gym etiquette, injury reduction, performance training, performance testing, sport specific training and recovery. In the practical components we will cover topics such as movement skill development, exercise technique, speed & agility drills, power development, Olympic lifting development, mobility/stability ratios to name a few.
The camps will run for two & a half hours on three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) for 5 weeks totalling 40 contact hours and this will allow us to develop and over see each person's athletic development. We will be functionally screening and designing programs of training for each participant as part of the camp experience. It will be performance orientated so each participant will see and experience first hand how to positively affect their athletic development through correct progressive functional training. We feel that if your child has the sporting potential, this camp will offer the strength & conditioning performance.
Cost:
€250 per person. Each camp group will be strictly restricted to 12 participants to ensure our high quality of instruction is maintained. Camps will run from June 10th to July 12th and will be open to athletes aged between 14-19 years old.
