Murroe Boher Weekly Notes

May 13, 2013
Senior Team
played Adare in the first round of the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship. Build up to the game was positive around the club with the team showing good form in a recent challenge game against Glenrovers of Cork.

On a very cold evening and with a stiff breeze across the pitch in Claughan the game was played on Saturday night at 7 pm, supporters travelled to see our team versus last years beaten county finalists Adare.

The team lined out as William Tobin (captain), Joe Keyes, Jonathan Dervan, Willie Clossey, Evan Walsh, John o' Connor, Diarmuid Byrnes, Pat Tobin, Seamus Hickey, Mike Ryan, Sean Tobin, Pat Walsh, Timmy O Brien, Mike Ryan, Darren Dunlea, Subs Declan Kett, Mike Dee, Colin Brouder, Eoghan Tuohey, David Quigley, Brian Mackey and John Ryan.

We needed a good start to settle our team, but it was Adare who settled and registered the first point on 2 minutes from Declan Hannon who had the number 11 jersey but was positioned at corner forward and given a free / roaming role.We had difficulty winning our puck outs and Adare scored again on 3 minutes, while coming out to claim a high ball JOC was taken out by Adares no 14 who was shown yellow, this seemed to break their flow and Sean Tobin register our first score with a pointed free, from this to half time both teams traded points but Adare held onto their lead which stretched to no more than 3 points at any time, Kevin Tobin scored 2 great points from play, Timmy O Brien chipped in with one point and was a threat when in possession, Sean Tobin contributed 2 more pointed frees and 2 points from play. In all we had 6 wides in the first half which were going to hurt in the second half as opportunities were hard won as Adare were happy to foul our players when we ran at their defence, turning point happened in the last minute of the half with Evan Walsh breaking out of defence and having beaten 2 Adare Players, tried to play a hand pass to Sean Tobin but it was intercepted and Adare broke hard down field and with Number 15 (Willie Griffin ) one on one with his marker he crashed the ball to the back of the net, this was a hammer blow, the half time score was Adare 1-9 to Murroe Boher 0-8.

Again we needed to start well in the second half but it was Adare who scored first with a pointed free, then our boys made a Hugh effort and we had the next 4 points to cut Adare to a 2 point lead, with this Adare tactic was to pull out their mid field and crowd out their half back line this had the effect of creating a lot of space in our half which they were to exploit to full effect in the last quarter, Declan Hannon sensing a drive by Murroe Boher won a Great ball on the wing and taking on his marker used his pace to drive for Goal and unleashed a deceptive shot on Goal, William Tobin brought off a spectacular save and this should have lifted the team but the harder we tried it was Adare who benefited from our all out push and with the extra space created in our half they shot the next 6 points to our 1 point in the last 15 minutes, it was a game where we gave a valiant effort and with a little more accuracy from placed balls should have been a lot closer, the space created in the last quarter and the ability to build on their lead meant we were always having to play catchup, the team and mentors remain positive and we all look forward to supporting them when we take on Knockainey on 16th June.

A huge congratulations to our Intermediates who qualified for the league final after a fantastic league semi-final win last Saturday, beating Ballybrown on a score-line of 6-8 to 1-4. It was a great display by all the girls and they fought hard from the word go and never let Ballybrown get an inch all through the game. We got an ideal start when we scored a goal after 2 minutes and added five more goals before the break, to leave us in a great position for the second half. We kept the pressure on Ballybrown again in the second half and never gave them a chance to get on top of us. We were delighted when the final whistle came as it was a well deserved victory and the girls deserved it.

Panel for the game was: Aine Fogarty, Helena Hayes, Anne O'Connor, Fiona O'Malley, Ruth O'Connor, Mary Ryan, Catherine McCormack, Fiona Toomey, Michelle Norris, Mairead O'Brien (1-0), Catriona Laffan (0-4), Niamh Richardson (2-4), Caroline Hickey (2-0), Eleanor Murnane, Aisling Regan (1-0). Subs: Lisa Ryan for Caroline Hickey, Amy Lynch for Mairead O'Brien, Laura Keays for Eleanor Murnane, Ruth Fitzgearld for Aisling Regan, Orla Holmes, Emer Richardson and Mary O'Connor. The league final is fixed for Saturday, the 18th, against Na Piarsaigh at 5pm, venue yet to be confirmed. Please check out our facebook page for venue. Also well done to our u14s who qualified for the league quarter final after beating Galbally last Tuesday on a score line of 8-2 to 2-1. They played extremely well throughout the whole game and are improving greatly with ever match they play. They take on Causeway, of Kerry, this Tuesday in the quarter final.

Congratulations
to Joe Quaid who managed the Limerick Intermediate Camogie team to the Division 2 National League title,
