St. Kieran s GAA dog night:
We are holding a dog night at the Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Friday June 8. The main race on the evening will be the Johnny Duggan Memorial Sweepstake Final. For this race a total of 2 dogs will take part in a series of semi final races in the weeks preceding our fundraising night.
We are currently looking for nominations for each of these dogs. The cost of each nomination is ¨50. The prize for the person/family/couple/organisation who nominates the winning dog is ¨200. A list of nominations will be printed on the race-card on the night and the public announcer will also list out those that sponsor us on the night itself. Alternatively, another potential advertising opportunity that you may consider is taking out an advertisement within the race-card. In addition we will also be running a monster raffle on the night if you would prefer to donate a prize towards the stand on the night. All businesses will be feature prominently on a poster inside the main door of the stand. We are extremely conscious that within the current economic climate conditions are difficult. West Junior A Hurling Championship:
The Junior hurlers get their campaign underway this Saturday evening when they travel to Dromcollagher to face a Monagea side who will be looking to make a quick jump back to the intermediate ranks after suffering relegation last season. We are under no illusions as to the task at hand on Saturday but hopefully we can keep our promising county league form going where we have wrapped up two victories so far comprehensively overcoming Croagh/Kilfinny and defeating Castletown/Ballyagran by two points in our last outing. Saturday evening s game will no doubt be a difficult encounter against a side we have traditionally struggled against but hopefully we can put in a big performance this weekend and secure the two points which are vital if we are to advance to the knockout stages of the west championship.
West Junior B Football Championship: St. Kieran s 0.9 Ballysteen 1.4
The junior footballers got their championship campaign off to a winning start last Thursday evening in the Bog Garden Rathkeale with a hard earned victory over Ballysteen. In only our second game of the season we were a bit rusty early on and it took us ten minutes to get ourselves into the game before Sean Windle gave us our opening score. The first half was pretty even with both sides going score for score and we just held the lead going in at the break thanks to some excellent strikes from Sean McSweeney. As the second half ensued we held the advantage in the early stages and increased our tally further and were unlucky not to have a number of goals. As the game drew to a close we were dealt a blow when we were reduced to 14 men and it was a case of trying to see out the game from here. Ballysteen reduced the deficit to a point with five minutes to go with an excellently struck penalty before two late points gave us the lead and the all important two points. We were due to play Drom/Broadford on Saturday evening but we received a walkover as Drom were unable to field a team. Next up we play Newcastlewest next week in the West League in Newcastlewest.
