Joe Canning bagged 1-7 for LIT, who are managed by Davy Fitzgerald, who was pitting his wits against former Banner County team-mate Brian Lohan.
Elsewhere, Carlow IT also took some time to get into full stride before beating Dublin IT by 0-16 to 0-11. Dublin's David Treacy inspired the underdogs into an early 0-7 to 0-4 advantage but seven pointed frees from TJ Reid proved decisive at the final whistle.
On a day of fightbacks, Cork IT trailed Waterford IT by five points at the break but two second-half goals from Paudie O'Sullivan turned the tide as the hosts prevailed by 2-10 to 1-11 at Bishopstown. Tweet
