Fitzgibbon Cup round-up
February 03, 2012
Thursday's Fitzgibbon Cup matches delivered some great entertainment.
An epic first-round derby between UL and LIT finished all-square as the first-mentioned battled back to take a share of the spoils, 0-16 to 1-13. Conor McGrath floated over twelve points for UL, who trailed by double scores, 1-11 to 0-7, going into the fourth quarter.
Joe Canning bagged 1-7 for LIT, who are managed by Davy Fitzgerald, who was pitting his wits against former Banner County team-mate Brian Lohan.
Elsewhere, Carlow IT also took some time to get into full stride before beating Dublin IT by 0-16 to 0-11. Dublin's David Treacy inspired the underdogs into an early 0-7 to 0-4 advantage but seven pointed frees from TJ Reid proved decisive at the final whistle.
On a day of fightbacks, Cork IT trailed Waterford IT by five points at the break but two second-half goals from Paudie O'Sullivan turned the tide as the hosts prevailed by 2-10 to 1-11 at Bishopstown.
