Limerick footballer Stephen Lucey believes anything other than promotion will be a disaster.

The Shannonsiders kick off their Division 4 campaign against Leitrim away on Sunday afternoon and the experienced defender wants the side to hit the ground running.

Lucey is concentrating on football this year, having been left out of the hurling squad and having endured a nightmare time with injuries, the Croom club man is eager to have a good campaign this year.

"What I would say is that we will be disappointed if we are not promoted - regardless of what is to happen in the championship, we don't want to be in division 4 again next season," Lucey stressed to the Limerick Leader.

"The last two years have been a shambles for me personally in terms of injuries - it has been unbelievably frustrating for me to be pretty much going through rehab all the time." Tweet
