McGuckin relieved

UL's Padraic O'Connor and Daniel McKenna of UUJ during the Sigerson Cup at Ratoath
UUJ manager Adrian McGuckin spoke of his relief after his side were given a big fright by UL in yesterday's Irish Daily Mail Sigerson Cup opener in Ratoath, Co. Meath.

"There was talk about the bookies odds before the match, but they were absolutely crazy," he said after Jordanstown's 1-10 to 1-9 victory.

"The University of Limerick have always had strong players and a good team. In the Sigerson Cup any 15 players can beat any other 15 and right up until the final whistle it was still up for grabs and looked like it could go to extra-time.

"We got the challenge that we expected, and it was absolutely brilliant to come out on the right end of it because there was some super football played there by both teams. The first game in the Sigerson is always the toughest one because the boys are coming back from their county teams and haven't been together for the last six weeks. It's a good start for us and nice to get the win and be able to watch the other teams for the rest of the week."
