Sigerson Cup: Jordanstown survive UL scare

UL's Padraic O'Connor and Daniel McKenna of UUJ during the Sigerson Cup at Ratoath
Hot favourites UUJ were mightily relieved to make it through to the last eight of the Irish Daily Mail Sigerson Cup after being pushed to the limit by UL in Ratoath, Co. Meath yesterday.

UUJ 1-10
UL 1-9

Defying their underdog status, University of Limerick recovered from a slow start to gain the upper hand midway through the first half when they scored 1-5 without reply. Laois star David Conway caused endless problems for the Jordanstown defence, while John O'Rourke scored a brilliant goal.

UL took a three-point lead into the break and they continued to look the most likely winners before Diarmuid McNulty benefited from a lucky break to score an equalising goal for Jordanstown. Paul Devlin then put them in front with two well-taken points, but UL refused to wilt and pulled back a point which left the Ulster men hanging on for the narrowest of victories.
