Eoghan & Patrick to receive West GAA All-Star Awards
For those of you who missed last week's notes, heartiest congratulations to Eoghan O'Connor & Patrick Sheahan who have been selected as West Junior Football and West U21 Football All-stars respectively for 2011 by the West Board. Both players will receive their awards at a function in the Devon Inn Hotel on Sat 11th Feb.
New Referees are required
At last week's West board meeting, a request for new referees was made to all GAA Clubs. Referees are urgently required if the board are to continue to organize our games. Our club has a long and very proud tradition of supplying top class referees who have gone on to referee at the very highest level. Men like Sean Fitzgerald (RIP) and Neil Duggan have both refereed All-Ireland senior finals while current referees Shane Hourigan and Martin Doherty are both very well respected at a national level. We surely have suitable candidates within the club whom are interested in officiating our great games. If you are interested in 'taking up the whistle', please pass your name along to the club secretary Pat Sheahan. Comprehensive training will be provided at divisional and county level.
New Limerick Clubs Draw
The club are delighted to promote the new Limerick Clubs Draw for 2012. This draw will be ran on behalf of all the Limerick GAA clubs by the County Board and will be a vital fundraiser for our club as it replaces the old "Limerick GAA Development Draw (Mackey Draw)".
It takes a similar format to the old draw with 10 draws throughout the year. The first draw takes place on the 1st Friday in March and goes right through until the first Friday in December. The annual subscription, remains at €100 which is unchanged from previous years. We encourage all our supporters and members to join the draw as the 50% commission earned by the club is vital to the financial well-being of the club.
Very shortly, our promoters will be canvassing for your support and we look forward to the same fantastic support as we received in previous years. First prize each month is a whopping €15,000, €5,000 for 2nd, €2000 for 3rd and €1,000 for 4th, €500 for 5th to 8th and €250 for 9th to 28th. Special bonus prizes consist of pairs of All-Ireland tickets and stays in Jury's Croke Park Hotel in April, May, June & July.
All in all, a very attractive prize fund and by joining, you are supporting your own local club which of course is the main benefit.
U21 Football Final DVDs
A limited number of souvenir DVDs of the County U21-A football final are still available. The game between Sean Finns and Shamrocks was played in Ballyagran on St Stephen's day. They are great value at only €10 each. Please contact club secretary Pat Sheahan if you wish to purchase a copy.
Club Membership now due
Club membership for the 2012 season is now due. Rates for 2012 remain unchanged from last year and are as follows: Adult €20, Under-18 €10 and a family rate of €50. All players must pay their membership prior to taking part in any games or training. This will be strictly enforced this year so make sure you contact Philip O'Donnell, who is the club registrar again for 2012, before training commences.
