Coiste na nÓg
Well attended AGM gets underage season underway.
The sub-committee with responsibility for teams from U16 to U8 - Coiste na nÓg - held its AGM at the club rooms on Friday last. It was well attended by the hardcore enthusiasts who have been at the coalface of a busy and successful 2011 and who will again be central to the club's underage efforts in 2012. Chairperson, Aidan McMahon presided and he and secretary John Hurley reported on a year that had strong performances by all teams from U8 to U16. There was County A championship success for the U16 footballers, a County A Shield final appearance for the U16 hurlers, Féile and County A championship football victories for the U14s plus a strong if losing performance versus Na Piarsaigh in the County A championship hurling final, while the U12s, U10s and U8s more than held their own in the various Go Games, leagues and blitzes, where development of skills and participation are the priority. Aidan and John had fully deserved praise for the players, mentors, parents, sponsors and supporters who worked so hard for the successes the Coiste enjoyed. The challenge is to consolidate and develop further in 2012. Aidan, John, Derry McMahon (treasurer), Noel O'Connor (PRO) will be at the helm again in 2012, subject to ratification by the Senior Board, the parent body, while managers and mentors for the year ahead will be finalised in due course as will the date and arrangements for the awards night.
Senior Presentation Night
A senior awards night is being arranged with a date in February likely. The minor and Junior B footballers will receive West championship medals, while runners-up medals will be presented to the senior and U21 footballers defeated in the respective County final.
Membership Fees
The fees are very reasonable - adults €25; students and minors €15; Coiste na nÓg €10, and are now due from all who wish to be involved in the club in any capacity - player, mentor, officer etc. The general public are invited to take out club membership also, with a vote at the AGM and participation in the draw for big day match tickets the main advantages of being a member. Club membership protects all in the club in the event of injury etc. and 'no pay, no play, no participate' is now the rule by all sports clubs everywhere, whether GAA, rugby, soccer, basketball, hockey, tidily winks etc!.
