SECRETARY'S REPORT
A Cathaoirligh agus a cairde Gael, it is my great pleasure to give my report on the activities of the club on and off the field for 2011. While success on the field was not as good as previous years the club contested finals in the West division.
Our senior footballers retained the West championship making it four in a row but bowed out in the semi-final stages of the county championship.
Our Junior footballers participated in the West league and championship but did not make the final stages.
Our U21 footballers were beaten in the semi-final of the A championship after some great performances in earlier rounds.
Our Minor footballers were defeated in the semi-final stages of the championship.
In the Intermediate hurling West championship we lost out to Monagea in a great game.
In the West Junior hurling we were defeated by Feoghanagh in the final after some great performances in the earlier rounds. In the County championship we were beaten by Kilmallock in the semi-final.
We took part in the All County Hurling League but did not make the final stages.
In the Junior B hurling after three rounds of the league we played one game in the championship and the team were withdrawn by Management.
Our U21 hurlers were defeated by Killeedy in the semi- final stage.
In the West Minor hurling championship we were defeated by Na Fianna in the final I have to say that the grading in this competition left a lot to be desired and certainly did not favour our club.
A more detailed report on the games will be in the P.R.O report and at this stage I would like to compliment Gareth Meaney on his outstanding and detailed report.
COUNTY TEAMS
I would like to congratulate our many club players who have represented Limerick again this year. Seanie Buckley, Tommy Stack in the Senior football. Garrett Noonan and Ray Lynch with the Junior footballers. Niall O Brien in the U17 Hurling team.
I want to wish Eoin Barry the best of luck making his debut on tomorrow Sunday with the Senior footballers. Also best wishes to Michael Brosnan with the U21footballers, and Darren Boyce and Niall O Brien with the minor footballers.
Seamus Brosnan, Patrick Stack, Paddy Lordan, Niall O Brien, and Darren Boyce were members of the Limerick VEC football team that lost narrowly to Kerry in the Munster Final. Garrett Noonan was a selector on the team. Best wishes to Garrett Noonan and Micheál Reidy who have taken up selectors with Minor and U21 county teams.
Ladies football again has brought great success to our parish with county titles again. Senior success for the club is just around the corner and I wish them well in the year ahead and assure them of any help the may need for further success.
Broadford handball goes from strength to strength and again this year many titles have come to the club. I wish them every success in the year ahead.
Na Piarsaigh success in Limerick and Munster just shows if you put in the work at under age level you will reap the rewards. On behalf of the club I wish to congratulate them on their success and wish them the best of luck in the All Ireland series .And of course we cannot forget our club connections with them. Timmy O Connor, Bill Reidy, Billy Kiely all former players with our club.
John Brudair has brought great success to our club both as a player and coach. And again he is bringing success this time to our neighbours Charleville. On behalf of the club I congratulate you John and wish you and Charleville every success in the All Ireland series.
I cannot let this meeting go by, without mentioning our great supporter Cannon Ambrose who retired just a few months ago. Always good for the match report, and good wishes at mass on Sundays, I have no doubt that his prayers got us out of a few tight corners on many a day. On behalf of the club I thank you for your loyal support and commitment to the club and wish you every success and health in the years ahead and hope to see you at many more of our games.
I would like to extend a Cead Mile Failte to Fr. O Dea to our parish and our club and on behalf of the club wish you many years of health and happiness and success and look forward to working with you. I like to thank Fr. O Dea for his help in organising our mass to night and attending our meeting.
During the year the club set up a finance committee to look at ways of cutting costs and raising money to cut the clubs debt. In my opinion this was the best thing that happened the club off the field. I want to congratulate them on their success and as you will see in the treasurer's report how successful it all was. John Cregan will give an account on the activities held.
In conjunction with the draw we formed a Ladies club to help out in the running of the draw. I want to thank them for the wonderful contribution they have made to the club and look forward to working with them in the year ahead.
Again this year the club remembered our great club man Denis Law Noonan, and played the annual football game in his memory. I would like to thank the Noonan family for their contribution again in presenting the cup to this year's captain John Kiely, who is in strict training, and diet for next year's game.
Bord Na Nóg is as we all know the foundation for success of our club. The work they are doing is getting bigger and bigger each year as the amount of children taking part in our games gets bigger. This year they won the county U13 hurling competition. I congratulate them on their success. Much more help is required at under age level and tonight I am asking our senior players to help out in coaching these players as they are the future of our club. A bigger look will be given at this level in the weeks ahead.
This year our outstanding Treasurer Charlie Butler is retiring from his position. Over the past decade and more Charlie has been a very important member of our club. His detailed report tonight will show you the work load in this position. On behalf of the club Charlie I thank you for your loyal support and outstanding contribution that you have made and wish you and your family well, and let's hope you will still play some part in our club.
During the year many of our club members lost loved ones. On behalf of the club I offer our deepest sympathy to you and your families. Also this year and in years gone by we have lost players through immigration many of these players are now showing their talent in other countries and we wish them well and hope to see them back with us in the very near future.
Over the years our club has been one of the most successful clubs in Limerick. This came about by a wonderful bunch of players we have in our club and parish. The players of our club are the most important people we have, without them we would have no club and certainly would not have enjoyed the success they have brought to the club. I want to thank every player who wore a club jersey this year. I want to thank them for their loyalty and commitment and look forward to working with them in the year ahead, each and every one of you are a credit to your families and your parish.
On behalf of the club I want to thank our club sponsors Nora and Noel Morrissey. In these economic times it's very difficult to get sponsorship but they have been loyal over the years and again thank them for their sponsorship. Many other people have helped in financing the club too many to mention on behalf of the club I thank them for their support.
We held 11 meetings during the year. Many of these meeting were well attended. I thank the committee members for their work and time in helping the club, and also to everyone who helped in making our draw and race night a huge success your time and efforts has not gone unnoticed.
I would like to thank our coaches and trainers who were associated with our teams this year. Also to all our team managers and selectors for their outstanding contribution to teams. As we all know it is a very difficult job being involved in teams when things are going well you're a hero, but when things go wrong you're the culprit for everything that goes wrong. I want to say that from my point of view, any decision that I and the rest of my management team took this year in the junior hurling, were taken for the betterment of the team and the club. No one man is bigger than the club in any grade of hurling or football.
I would like to thank my fellow officers for their help to me and the wonderful contribution they made to this club. I look forward to working with them in the year ahead. I want to wish every team manager, trainer, selectors and teams well in the year ahead.
As we get ready for another New Year let us get behind our teams, our mentors our club. And let us all look forward to a successful 2012. I wish you all a happy and sporting new year.
