Allen points to youth as way forward

Limerick hurling manager John Allen
Limerick manager John Allen has declared 'the youngsters are the future of Limerick hurling.'

Allen caused a huge surprise this week by omitting Stephen Lucey and Brian Murray from his panel as well as Paudie O'Brien, Eoin Ryan, Paudie McNamara, Pat Toibin and Kieran O'Rourke, while Damien Reale and Donie Ryan have retired.

The former Cork manager has stressed that his squad is open ended at the moment, but it seems as if youth is the way forward in his eyes.

"The youngsters are the future of Limerick hurling," Allen told the Limerick Leader. "The panel is very much open ended and if a fella is playing out of his skin in the Fitzgibbon Cup or for his club we will have no hesitation in calling him back into the panel."

Allen is expected to work with the bulk of this year's under-21 squad that lifted the Munster title when defeating Cork in an epic final.
